In our teaching of English we support children of all abilities to develop a genuine love of reading and an enthusiasm for the written expression of their ideas. English is taught using a wide range of resources to encourage speaking and listening skills, confidence in spelling and the ability to write for an increasing variety of purposes.
The teaching of reading is carried on structurally from the infants. Those who progress to free reading have a wide choice of books. Children are expected to take books home to read and parents are asked to help. A reading book is sent between school and home so that everyone knows what to read and what has been read.
Every class in the school has access to our central well stocked library each week and it is also used to develop higher reading skills through reference work.
