Wider Opportunities
We work with the Derbyshire Music Partnership to provide all children in Year 4 with the opportunity to learn a musical instrument throughout the year at no cost to themselves. To date children have experienced playing the cello, violin, viola, clarinet and flute.
Performances have been arranged for parents to come in to school to see how their child has progressed playing their instrument and there is also the opportunity to carry on with lessons throughout their time at Kensington for a small fee.
Trip to Ypres, Belgium
A group of Year 5/6 children had the opportunity to visit Ypres in Belgium on a Remembrance Tour during Easter 2015. They visited WWI War Graves and laid a wreath on behalf of Kensington Junior School at the Menin gate.
Young Voices, Sheffield
The KJS School Choir attended the Young Voices event at Sheffield Arena in 2019.
They performed a variety of songs and shared the arena with lots of other schools from around the UK.
3 day Residential Visit
Y6 have the opportunity to attend a Residential trip to Lea Green close to Matlock in Derbyshire. Activities involved are Stream Scrambling, Orienteering, Climbing Wall and many more.
Trumpet lessons available at Kensington
At Kensington we have purchased 12 trumpets for the use of our pupils. Mr Kevin Holdgate, a well known local teacher who has been involved in brass teaching for over 30 years comes into school on a weekly basis to teach our pupils the joys of music making!
